Saturday - January 20, 2007

The cold winter mornings are continuing on. This morning it was a degree or two warmer then earlier in the week when it went down into the twenties.

The teams were selected in accordance with the rating system and were as follows:

Rudy and Carole
Harry and Louise
Larry and Tina
Richard and Carmel

Rudy came nursing a cold and was very low profile in the first set. Half way through the second set he decided that he didn't feel so bad after all. Rudy and Carole won the last two sets. They tied Richard and Carmel who also won 2 out of the 3 sets. The remaining teams each won 1 out of the 3 sets. The results were as follows:

ROUND ONE

Harry/Louise over Rudy/Carole (6-2)
Richard/Carmel over Larry/Tina (6-5)

ROUND TWO

Richard/Carmel over Harry/Louise (6-5)
Rudy/Carole over Larry/Tina (6-3)

ROUND THREE

Rudy/Carole over Richard/Carmel (6-2)
Larry/Tina over Harry/Louise (6-0)

The deck was full after tennis since John's group also had 8 players. The refreshments today was one of the most elaborate spreads that we have ever had. There were lumpias with two different sauces (Carole), Brie and crackers (Carmel), Pollo Loco broasted chicken (Tina). Oranges (Harry), chicken wings (Louise), Tortilla chips (Richard) and drinks (the guys).

This was another cold Saturday morning. We started with the temperature barely above freezing, but since the sun was out, it got warmer later on. All four good courts were taken. John had a group of 8 playing in Courts 2 and 4, while the 5HIT group played on Courts 1 and 3. Here are the results:

Harry and Louise defeated Zack and Carole 6-3

* Zack attempted to return a drop shot and fell, injuring his left hand, right shoulder and head. Nothing serious. Dr. Justin said so.

Larry will be updating the 5HIT ratings.

When we were done playing, the 8.0 team took over the courts.

As last Saturday, the tennis deck was full with plenty of food and drinks. Tina's hot toddy was a hit on this cold Saturday morning. Many have requested the recipe.

Tina would like to be a regular 5HIT member. This will make four regular women players.

As soon as she gets accepted she will be joining the Millennium Sports Club so she won't have to pay the $15 guest fee everytime she plays. Let us know if you have any objections.
