Saturday - July 29, 2006

The heat wave was over. The morning was gray and slightly cool when 3 of the regular players (Zack, Rudy & Larry) and 5 guest players (Donna, Tera, Bill, Dave & Harry) assembled for the Saturday morning round robin. The teams were as follows:

Tera and Dave
Donna and Rudy
Zack and Larry
Bill and Harry

As expected Tera and Dave won all of their matches and took first. The results were as follows:

1st Round

Tera/Dave
over Donna/Rudy 6-4
Zack/Larry over Bill/Harry 6-0

2nd Round

Tera/Dave over Zack/Larry 6-2
Donna/Rudy over Zack/Larry 6-4

3rd Round

Tera/Dave
over Bill/Harry 6-1
Donna/Rudy over Zack/Larry 6-4

The refreshments this week were cheese & crackers (Dave), peanuts in the shell (Donna), chips and salsa (Larry) and beer and coke (Bill, Rudy & Zack). Most of the people stayed and enjoyed the comeradrie and refreshments.

During the refreshments Carole and her cute little granddaughter with her painted finger and toe nails came to submit tomatoes for the first weighing of the season for the 2006 Tomato Growing contest. Carole brought individual husband and wife entries for the contest. Gayten's (husband) entry nosed out Carole's entry by weighing 0.3 ounce more. Allegations were heard that Gayten did not give her plant as much fish emulsion to her plant as he did for his plant. The granddaugter remained neutral on this issue as she showed off her painted toe nails. Details of the weighing can be found at the Tomato Blog.

George will be on a temporary hiatus from the Saturday tennis round robin for a while. Bill will be filling in for him during his haitus.

The courts 1 - 4 will be resurfaced next week. Onome will meet with the contractor on Monday to learn how long Courts 1 - 4 will be closed for resurfacing and curing.

The ratings after today's play are as follows:

Rudy - 5.8

SATURDAY - JULY 22

On the hottest day of the year so far we were scheduled to start an hour later at 10 AM. Unfortunately at 10:20 AM we had 7 players. Richard S. did not show up. Luckily we were able to pick up Bob F, from a group that was finishing up. By the time that we started playing we were now into the heat of the day. The tennis results were as follows:

1st Round
George/Larry over Zack/Richard C. 6 - 2
Rudy/Bob F. over Bill/Onome 6 - 0

2nd Round
Rudy/Bob F. over George/Larry 6 - 4
Zack/Richard C. over Bill/Onome 6 - 5

Since it was now 1 hour past Zack's beer time he called off the 3rd round.

We adjourned to the deck to imbibe a little beer and wine coolers. George had to leave but left a big jar of homemade salsa. Everybody enjoyed the salsa immensely and voted to give George the salsa assignment for the rest of the year.

A discussion was held on Richard S.' failure to show up without any notice. Since 7 other players were affected by his no-show status. He narrowly avoided being ostracized from the Saturday tennis group by one vote. He will be put on probation and another no-show action will put him on the back page of the invite list.

The ratings after the play today are as follows:

Zack - 4.5
George - 5.1
Larry - 4.2
Rudy - 5.9

Richard C. - 4.3
Onome - 2

SATURDAY JULY 15, 2006

Under some gray skies the 4 regulars (Zack, Rudy, George and Larry) assembled to play mens doubles. The sun broke through the gray skies early in the match. The teams were set in accordance with our rating system and resulted in a 4.0 team (George & Rudy) vs. a 3.5 team (Zack & Larry). The 4.0 team won all 3 sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-1. The 4.0 team did resort to switching sides back and forth to receive serve in the 2nd set to confuse the 3.5 team.

Everybody adjourned to the deck for some beer and peanuts after tennis. The peanuts were donated by another foursome on the deck.

The ratings after the play today are as follows:

SHIT 7/15 --

Today is Friday and we still don't know if we will have 8 players for tomorrow's tennis. We have the regular four (Zack, Larry, George and Rudy) and Rudy's assignment is to get four more.

Will he deliver? I guess we will know real soon. Not to worry. Plan B will be the four of us will just play Fun And Relaxing Tennis (FART) as opposed to High Intensity.

Zack
Court Resurfacing

According to a sign posted on the tennis bulletin board, the courts are scheduled for renovation July 31st through August 4th. We heard that Courts 1-4 will be resurfaced. If everything works out with the renovation we will be playing SHIT on August 5th on newly resurfaced courts 1 and 3!

This calls for a celebration. I will bring some MGD on August 5th SHIT.
