Our players joined John's group to relax and drink beer up on the deck after tennis. George came from work to have a beer with us.

It was well past "Beer Time" when we adjourned to the deck for refreshments. The goodies consisted of Carmel's cheese and cracker plate with some home grown pears that were delicious. She also had a bag of Jalapeno chips to spice up the day. Bill's salsa was very popular with the crowd. Harry had the healthy food, grapes. The drinks were provided by Larry and Richard. Richard also brought humus that Cathy had made and it was very popular with the crowd.

The ratings that changed after playing are as follows:

Saturday -Sept. 9, 2006

The morning started out gray and cool but the sun broke out by the second round of our round robin. This was a relief since the day beore it was overcast and cold for most of the day. We got a late start on the tennis since Rudy was a late cancellation but Carole was able to get Annabelle to agree to substitute for Rudy just before we were scheduled to start the round robin. Annabelle and Cari were new players to the Saturday group. They were both from the BCTA.

Zack had announced the teams in his last email. Due to the substitution Zack reshuffled all of the teams except his. The 3rd round was abbreviated since players had to leave for other commitments. Carmel/Larry won in all three rounds. The results of the tennis were as follows:

ROUND One -

Larry/Carmel over Harry/Cari (6-5)
Bill/Annabelle over Zack/Carole (6-5)

ROUND Two -

Larry/Carmel over Bill/Annabelle (6-4)
Harry/Cari over Zack/Carole (6-5)

ROUND Three -

Larry/Carmel over Zack/Carole (3-1)
Bill/Annabelle over Harry/Cari (2-1)

It was sunny and cool when we adjourned up to the deck for refreshments. Carole's salmon pate with crackers and Carmel's fruit platter had already been dipped into by John's group before we adjourned to the deck. The additional refreshments were grapes from Harry, cookies and scones from Cari, nuts and jerky from Larry, liquid refreshments from Zack and Bill and homemade salsa fom Dave. Dave was in attendence for the weighing of his tomato. At the end Zack produced a Rojo container that he stated was homemade salsa by Louise. Upon tasting it allegations were heard from the son-inlaw that it was store bought salsa.

Carmel submitted one "Red tomato" (her description of the variety) tomato on a nice plate and Dave submitted 3 Caspian pink variety tomatos for the tomato contest. Carmel easily won the presentation part of the weighing. Onome was present for the procedings and was the official girth measurer. Dave's entries easily bested the previous high held by Louise's tomato. He showed no remorse in shattering the previous high that was held by his mother-inlaw.

Saturday - Sept. 2, 2006

We're into September now and the morning started out gray and cool. Autumn is on the way I guess. For the first time in a while Zack was able to assemble 8 players for a round robin. After 3 rounds Rudy and Harry were undefeated. Harry looked like he has returned to his old self in playing today. The results of the round robin are as follows:

Round one -

Zack/Cathy over Louise/Larry (6-4)
Rudy/Harry over Bill/Richard C. (6-5)

Round Two -

Rudy/Harry over Zack/Cathy (6-5)
Bill/Richard C. over Louise/Larry (6-5)

Round Three -

Rudy/Harry over Louise/Larry (6-0)
Zack/Cathy over Bill/Richard C. (6-4)

The sun was shining when we adjourned up to the deck for refreshments. It was still a little cool. Cathy and Richard had a nice basket of multigrain tortilla chips with some tasty salsa to go with it that every one enjoyed. Louise presented her sourdough bread with spinach dip on a silver platter that everybody enjoyed. We had to stop when we ran out of bread. Seedless grapes were available courtesy of Harry. That was the healthy part of the refreshments. Bill presented what was billed as "beer nuts" but looked curiously like mixed nuts. The beef Jerky was supplied by Rudy. Zack, Larry and Rudy supplied the liquid refreshments.

As an adjunct to the refrehment time an official weighing for the Tomato Contest was held. Louise (Zack's wife) presented another entry this week. It looked very presentable in a little basket but when it was removed for the weighing a huge crack was exposed. It weighed in as the new leader at 17+ ounces.

The ratings that changed after today's play are as follows:

Rudy - 4.9
Zack - 4.7
Larry - 3.9
Bill - 3.5
Louise - 4.3
Cathy - 4.3+
Harry - 3.4
Richard C. - 5.7
Carole - 5
Cyp 4.5

All other ratings are in the "Saturday - August 19, 2006 - UPDATE posting.

We'll be back next week.
