Saturday - Dec. 30, 2006

It was a sunny but chilly morning for the last HIT for 2006. It remained sunny all morning and the temperatures stayed mainly in the 40's.

The tennis commenced a little late as we were waiting for the last of the women's contingent to show up. Louise was the last one to show up and the play got underway around 9:30 AM. The teams were selected in accordance with the ratings and were as follows:

Larry and Louise
Rudy and Sue
Zack and Tina
Bob S. and Harry

Rudy and Sue won all 3 sets and were the winners. Zack and Tina took second by winning 2 out of the 3 sets. Bob S. and Harry lost all 3 sets. The results were as follows:

ROUND ONE

Rudy/Sue over Bob S./Harry (6-0)
Zack/Tina over Larry/Louise (6-5)

ROUND TWO

Rudy/Sue over Zack/Tina (6-2)
Larry/Louise over Bob S./Harry (6-4)

ROUND THREE

Rudy/Sue over Larry/Louise (6-5)
Zack/Tina over Bob S./Harry (6-3)

The after tennis spread was alittle more elaborate than usual to celebrate the new year. As advertised Louise prepared her eggnog which was as smooth and delicious as advertised. The other items provided were as follows:

Bob S. - California Roll sushi
Tina - Banana-pear-oat bread
Harry - Oranges
Zack - Smoked salmon
Rudy - Baileys Irish creme

Saturday - Dec. 23,2006

Winter has arrived. The temperature was in the 40's when we started playing. After tennis, we had to crank up the heater at the deck but it barely produced enough heat to make us comfortable.

Cathy took Larry's place today.

Based on the latest 5HIT ratings the teams were:

George and Harry
Rudy and Bob S
Zack and Sue
Cathy and Louise

George and Harry won all three sets.

Round 1:
George and Harry defeated Cathy and Louise 6-3
Rudy and Bob S defeated Zack and Sue 6-2

Round 2:
George and Harry defeated Rudy and Bob S 6-4
Cathy and Louise defeated Zack and Sue 6-4

Round 3:
George and Harry defeated Zack and Sue 6-2
Rudy and Bob F defeated Cathy and Louise 6-2.

There were lots of Christmas wishes at RAT today. For next Saturday, Louise pledged to bring egg nog made from her special recipe. She hinted someone should bring chocolate coated strawberries.

Larry will update the 5HIT ratings before next Saturday.

Saturday - Dec. 16,2006

The sun didn't come out and it was cooold! At least the courts were dry.

Larry had to cancel at the last minute as he said he was under the weather. Rich took his place. George had to work today and Sue filled in. Based on the latest 5HIT ratings the teams were:

Bob F and Harry
Rudy and Carmel
Zack and Sue
Rich and Louise

Rich and Louise won all three sets.

Round 1:

Rudy and Carmel defeated Zack and Sue 6-1
Rich and Louise defeated Bob and Harry 6-2

Round 2:

Zack and Sue defeated Bob and Harry 6-2
Rich and Louise defeated Rudy and Carmel 6-5, coming from behind.

Round 3:

Rich and Louise defeated Zack and Sue 6-3 (actually the score was 5-3 but Sue had to leave).
Rudy and Carmel defeated Bob and Harry 6-1.

Refreshments were great as usual. There were plenty of food and drinks to go around. Rich and Sue didn't stick around for RAT.

There is a new outdoor propane heater at the tennis deck and we got to try it today. The staff came down to fire it up. Thanks to the management for making this happen.

Larry will update the 5HIT ratings before next Saturday.

Saturday - Dec. 9, 2006

It was wet! The players congregated at 9 AM and rolled the excess water off of the courts. Play started about 9:45 AM and the courts were wet. The courts finally dried off around 10:30 AM.

The teams were as selected by Zack and were as follows:

Zack and Tina
Rudy and Louise
Bob F. and Sue
Larry and Harry

Bob F. and Sue won in all three rounds. They made the biggest comeback in Hi-Intensity Tennis history in the first round against Zack and Tina when they rose from the dead down 5-0 in the set score and won the set at 6-5.

The favored team of Rudy and Louise took second with two wins. Larry and Harry lost in all three rounds.

The results are as follows:

Bob F./Sue over Zack/Tina (6-5)
Rudy/Louise over Larry/Harry (6-3)

ROUND TWO

Bob F./Sue over Rudy/Louise (6-2)
Zack/Tina over Larry/Harry (6-2)

The refreshments this week were cheese and crackers, grapes, veggies and dip, beer and wine coolers.

Saturday - Dec. 2, 2006

It was a cold sunny Saturday morning. The temperature was trying to crawl into the 40's. In a late development the women's side was not able to muster a quorum again so it was on to men's doubles.

The teams were Zack and Rudy vs. George and Larry in accordance with our rating program. George/Larry took the first set 7-5 and Zack/Rudy won the 2nd set 6-2. A third set was started but not completed. Instead we went to the deck to drink beer.

The ratings that changed after today's play are as follows:

George - 5.5
Larry - 3.7
Rudy - 5.3
Zack - 4.5

The men will be back next week. I don't know about the women.
