Saturday - Nov. 25, 2006

It was a cold Saturday morning where the 4 guys met to play men's doubles. Carmel failed to muster a quorum for the women's side.

The teams were selected per the player ratings and the teams were Rudy and George vs. Larry and Harry. Rudy and George easily beat Larry and Harry in all 3 sets (6-3, 6-2, 6-0).

We had some beer and pistachios after completing play.

The player ratings that changed after Saturday's play are as follows:

George - 5.3
Larry - 3.8
Rudy - 5
Harry - 3.4

We will be back next week. Whether the women's side will be here is unknown.

5HIT -- Nov 18, 2006

What a beautiful day for tennis. The overcast sky cleared even before we finished our first round. Larry was playing a 7.0 league match in Napa today so Bob F took his place. Tina played with us for the first time; Harry came with his dog to watch us play and he joined us later for refreshments. The courts were loaded as Donna's 8.0 team showed up during RAT to play a home match against Napa. Larry Cochran was there playing in John's group (two cops, a judge and an underwriter). Steve Lee also showed up with a guest and they played on Court 3 when the 5hit group finished.

THE TEAMS

George and Louise
Rudy and Tina
Zack and Carole
Bob F and Carmel

George and Louise won all three rounds, Bob F and Carmel won two, Rudy and Tina won one, and Zack and Carole lost all three. Here are the scores:

Round One --
George and Louise defeated Carmel and Bob F 6-2
Rudy and Tina defeated Zack and Carole 6-4

Round Two --
George and Louise defeated Rudy and Tina 6-3
Carmel and Bob F defeated Zack and Carole 6-3

Round Three --
George and Louise defeated Zack and Carole 6-4
Bob F and Carmel defeated Rudy and Tina 6-3

Larry will update the 5HIT ratings later.

RAT

As usual, the ladies brought lots of goodies. There were plenty of assorted drinks to compliment the spread. Everybody seemed to like Tina's mango bars because they were gone at no time.

COURT THREE DRAMA

Steve Lee got pretty upset that a staff member approached him while hitting with his friend to question him about the legality of his guest. It turned out that Steve had either paid the guest fee or presented a guest pass (not sure which) for his friend before they came to the courts. Steve and his friend cut short their tennis and left.

Saturday - Nov. 4, 2006

It was a dismal gray, damp and foggy morning. Winter appears to be around the corner. There were 8 of us this morning and the teams were selected by our player ratings. The teams were as follows:

Rudy/Carole
George/Carmel
Zack/Louise
Larry/Harry

No team was able to sweep all 3 rounds but 2 teams (George/Carmel and Rudy/Carole) tied with 2 wins apiece. The results were as follows:

ROUND ONE

George/Carmel over Larry/Harry (6-3)
Zack/Louise over Rudy/Carole (6-3)

ROUND TWO

George/Carmel over Zack/Louise (6-2)
Rudy/Carole over Larry/Harry (6-2)

ROUND THREE

Rudy/Carole over George/Carmel (6-4)
Larry/Harry over Zack/Louise (6-5)

Carole did not stay for the refreshments since she had to go care for her daughter who was expecting to deliver a new grandchild today.

The refreshments were at their usual high level. Carmel had wheat thins, orange slices and an international cheese. Louise brought out strawberries, humus and pita bread. Harry brought grapes. All the food was washed down with beer and wine coolers supplied by the men.

The tennis ratings that changed due to tday's play are as follows:

George - 4.8
Larry - 5.1-
Rudy - 5.1+
Zack - 4.4
Louise - 4
Carmel - 4.9
Carole - 4
Harry - 3.8

There will not be a Saturday Hi-Intensity Tennis next week since the group plus 4 more players will be hosted to a tennis social by Napa Valley Country Club.
