Saturday - August 26, 2006

The morning was gray and cool. It was hard to believe that it was summer. 4 players, Zack, Carole, Cyp and Larry gathered together to play tennis. Cyp may have been a little sleepy since Zack woke him up this morning to be a last minute substitute.

Zack and Carole teamed up against Cyp and Larry. Many cries of "switch" by Zack was heard with a result of what appeared to be confusion rather than switching. Cyp and Larry edged Zack and Carole in 2 sets, 7-5, 7-5.

Louise (not Zack's wife) and Harry played singles in the court adjacent to us.

After tennis Louise (Zack's wife) brought her tomato entry for official weighing. Her german variety of tomato weighed in at a little over 16 ozs. to take the lead in the tomato contest. The weighing was witnessed by Carole, the former leader in the tomato contest. Louise was awarded additional points for presentation when she submitted her tomato in a colorful basket. Cyp will be bringing his tomato entry for weighing after FIJI STAG tomorrow.

The after tennis refreshments were beer from Zack, chips and salsa from Larry, grapes from Harry, and a tasty dish of strawberry topped dip with crackers from Louise (not Zack's wife).

The ratings that changed after today's play are as follows:

Zack -4.8
Carole - 5
Larry - 4.1
Cyp - 4.5

All of the other ratings are the same as in the previous posting.

I think we will be back next week.

I had reserved two courts for this event but we ended up using only one. Carmel's group did not materialize. So the guys played without the gals.

Rudy and Richard Christo had an easy win over Zack and Rich Smith: 6-2, 6-3, 6-3.

Richard did not get the word he was supposed to bring beer but thanks to the nearby 7-11, the Happy Hour was saved.

SHIT 8/12.. on this nice beautiful day with newly resurfaced courts, we could only get four people to play, and they were the men's group. The ladies group couldn't get their sh** together. Onome was practicing with his new racquet on Court 2. John's group was on Court 4.

Zack and Richard Christo defeated Rudy and Richard Smith 6-4, 6-2, 7-5. Those were three good sets and we were ready for beer afterwards. Except Rudy, the designated beer person had to make a trip to the 7-11 to get some MGD. John's group finished about the same time as us, so when we all retired to the deck for RAT, while waiting for Rudy's beer, we traded some of Richard Christo's tasty homemade salsa for Bob F's beer from the other group. Rich Smith brought some good jerky to share with everybody and that went very well with the beer.

Larry is touring the northwestern United States and I am sure he will read this post before he returns. Larry and Nancy -- I hope you are having fun. Be safe..

Saturday - Aug. 5, 2006

On a mild sunny morning 4 players (Zack, Rudy, Larry and Dan) gathered together on court #7 for some men's doubles. The workmen were painting the lines on courts 1 thru 4. Rudy, who was assigned to bring chips for after tennis refreshments started in on the chips before we started.

Zack and Dan won the first 2 sets at 6-2 apiece. The Super Tiebreaker was played for the 3rd set at double or nothing odds. As if he planned this Rudy and his partner Larry won the super tiebreaker at 10-6 and evened the match.

Zack brought the beer for the after tennis refreshments and Rudy produced another bag of kettle chips. Dan got a minus rating for bringing the salsa with out a bowl to serve it in.

Brian showed up with 2 of his workers and started to put up the nets on Courts 1 thru 4 while we were having our refreshments. The courts should be ready for play tomorrow.
