Saturday -Sept. 9, 2006
The morning started out gray and cool but the sun broke out by the second round of our round robin. This was a relief since the day beore it was overcast and cold for most of the day. We got a late start on the tennis since Rudy was a late cancellation but Carole was able to get Annabelle to agree to substitute for Rudy just before we were scheduled to start the round robin. Annabelle and Cari were new players to the Saturday group. They were both from the BCTA.
Zack had announced the teams in his last email. Due to the substitution Zack reshuffled all of the teams except his. The 3rd round was abbreviated since players had to leave for other commitments. Carmel/Larry won in all three rounds. The results of the tennis were as follows:
ROUND One -
Larry/Carmel over Harry/Cari (6-5)
Bill/Annabelle over Zack/Carole (6-5)
ROUND Two -
Larry/Carmel over Bill/Annabelle (6-4)
Harry/Cari over Zack/Carole (6-5)
ROUND Three -
Larry/Carmel over Zack/Carole (3-1)
Bill/Annabelle over Harry/Cari (2-1)
It was sunny and cool when we adjourned up to the deck for refreshments. Carole's salmon pate with crackers and Carmel's fruit platter had already been dipped into by John's group before we adjourned to the deck. The additional refreshments were grapes from Harry, cookies and scones from Cari, nuts and jerky from Larry, liquid refreshments from Zack and Bill and homemade salsa fom Dave. Dave was in attendence for the weighing of his tomato. At the end Zack produced a Rojo container that he stated was homemade salsa by Louise. Upon tasting it allegations were heard from the son-inlaw that it was store bought salsa.
Carmel submitted one "Red tomato" (her description of the variety) tomato on a nice plate and Dave submitted 3 Caspian pink variety tomatos for the tomato contest. Carmel easily won the presentation part of the weighing. Onome was present for the procedings and was the official girth measurer. Dave's entries easily bested the previous high held by Louise's tomato. He showed no remorse in shattering the previous high that was held by his mother-inlaw.

1 Comments:
My salsa was later verified to be homemade, as confirmed by Louise to Carmel on the phone.
Dave has won the tomato contest for the last two years and it looks like he will win it again this year. He should let us in on his secret on how to grow BIG tomatoes.
